The number is unlisted. It’s a land line or VoIP. Callers can’t leave a message (no voicemail or answering machine… on purpose). You can count the number of people who have the number on one hand. Your mother doesn’t even have this number. But who does? Your broker? Your private physician? A bent U.S. senator? Your Mrs. Robinson? Regardless, no single man’s bedroom is complete without it. It’s the bedside phone.
