One of the best movies of 2017 is Baby Driver. Written and directed by Edgar Wright, who also directed Shaun of the Dead (2004) and Hot Fuzz (2007) and co-wrote Ant Man (2015), Baby Driver was some of the most fun I’ve had in a movie theater in a long time. One of the best parts of the movie was one of the main characters: the music.

Usually, music is added after a cut of the film is completed. In the case of Wright’s Baby Driver, the idea was inspired by a 700-song playlist he curated and ultimately whittled down to the 30-track “music from the motion picture” collection that we hear in the movie. The end result is a masterful integration of sound and story, producing a smart and hilarious thrill ride that never lets up.

Wright’s eclectic selection of music is my favorite kind, full of esoteric surprises from many genres and decades. It always delights and never disappoints. For July’s playlist, it’s all about the music from Baby Driver. I hope you can appreciate why.

Enjoy!
