The Best Dressed Men at the 2017 Met Gala

I used to work for Joan Rivers and constantly heard about her simple formula for getting dressed. It started with a blank canvas of a black shirt, black tuxedo pants and black shoes. From there, Joan would put on a beautifully tailored jacket and pile on the jewelry. The best dressed men at the Met Ball last night basically did the same thing and knocked it out of the park.

A New Pair of Levi’s 501 Shrink-to-Fit Selvedge Jeans

It’s always good to join the mailing list of brands you like. That way, whenever they have a sale, you can get a heads-up on something you need for a nice discount.

I’ve been in the mood for a new pair of Levi’s 501s for a while, but the selvedge raw denim Shrink-to-Fits I prefer cost $128. Since I’m one of only three people left on the planet who didn’t take the blue pill that puts me in the “denim is precious” matrix, It’s really hard for me to justify three figures on a pair of pants originally designed as a cheap garment for laborers. But an email blast from Levi’s alerted me to a sweet sale. The 501 Original Shrink-to-Fit Selvedge Jeans were reduced to $79. On top of that, there was a promo code offering an additional 25% off. Essentially, I got a new pair of $128 jeans for $67.

Affordable Grenadine Ties from Chipp Neckwear

My favorite ties in the world are silk knits and grenadines. Their dress-to-casual versatility is unmatched by any other necktie I can think of. I could easily survive with a four tie collection consisting of two of each, with one in black and one in dark navy. In fact, since I actually have that four tie collection, I could happily “tie die” now.

As I wrote in an earlier piece about grenadines, these ties were a stock item in Sean Connery’s Bond wardrobe. They’re classic, simple and irrefutably elegant no-brainers. I also wrote that the complex weave of the grenadine fabric can make them more expensive, often blowing past the $100 mark with higher end brands.

The Frustrating Truth About Luxury: It Just Looks Sexier

I get an email every morning from a popular online men’s magazine. It’s a digest of their newest content, consisting of posts about rare luxury cars, liquor, gear, getaways and whatnot. It’s bro porn.

Here’s the problem: I don’t drink, I neither have nor really want a car, and I don’t have any money. And I’m guessing that at least 99.99999% of the men on this website’s mailing list do not have the money for 99.99999% of the featured gear and getaways either. On rare occasions, the editors feature something fantastic that is actually affordable, which is nice.

So why don’t I unsubscribe? Well…

The Great White T-Shirt

Is there anything simpler or more iconic, accessible and essential in a man’s wardrobe?

The white t-shirt was originally an undergarment with roots in the military. The white tee started to get traction as a legitimate outer garment with the help of some iconic cultural tentpoles in the middle of the twentieth century, most notably Marlon Brando in A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) and James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause (1955).
