The January 2019 Spotify Playlist
It’s a new year, but it’s the same approach to the music selections: an eclectic mix of the esoteric and the accessible.

With winter hitting, I need a lift. The tone of this particular playlist is on the decidedly lighter side of the spectrum. And then there's Christmas...
This month’s set is from women who’ve rocked, rolled, grooved, wailed, hipped, hopped and kicked considerable ass.
To make up for the fact that I haven’t posted a playlist in months, I packed this one with more songs than usual. Along with a few of my favorites from Aretha, I included songs by artists introduced to me by my friend Steve Lippman, who passed away in August.
Occasionally, I’ll throw down a playlist with a discernible theme or mood. Although this isn’t one of them, it does have a summery vibe. When it comes to music and general listening, I favor the eclectic with offbeat surprises, especially from resources like NPR’s All Songs 24/7 and KCRW’s Eclectic24 streams. This month’s playlist captures the well-rounded flavor of those stations.
I haven’t updated the monthly playlist since last August. Shame on me.
If I ever owned or managed a men's shop or a barbershop, this is the music that would be playing.
A glorious nostalgia overload for any Generation Xer.
It's a mix, a mélange and a mess. (But it's a lot of fun.) Happy Spring!
