David Byrne blows up the world (under the High Line) (@NYMag)
My favorite New York eclecticist, David Byrne, has created a temporary installation under the High Line at 25th Street: a blown-up globe, like a giant beach ball version of the globes on which we learned geography in school, stuffed under a section of the High Line. The temporary installation, called Tight Spot, includes an audio feature (of course) also created by DB. It will be in place until October 1st.
Michael Stipe on the road with Patti Smith, Bob Dylan and Allen Ginsberg (@InterviewMag)
After a decades long hiatus from public life, Patti Smith re-emerged into the limelight on a 1995 tour with Bob Dylan. On that tour, Michael Stipe (yes, R.E.M. Michael Stipe) served as unofficial tour photographer for two weeks. Allen Ginsberg was in tow, as well. In 1998, a book of the resulting black and white photographs, called Two Times Intro: On the Road with Patti Smith (a photo diary by Michael Stipe), was released. The book was re-released by Akashic Books on Wednesday 9/14.

Studio 360 (@studio360show)
It’s Friday, which means we get a new episode of Studio 360: public radio’s “smart and surprising guide to what’s happening in pop culture and the arts,” a.k.a. the best radio show/podcast on the ether. This week: Albert Brooks goes gangster in “Drive,” Nirvana’s Nevermind, women take over primetime TV and Matt Damon in Steven Soderbergh’s “Contagion.”
