Steven Soderbergh is back with his first theatrically-released feature film since 2013’s Side Effects. (So much for his much-ballyhooed retirement from filmmaking.) The new outing is Logan Lucky, about two brothers who attempt to pull off a heist during a NASCAR race in North Carolina.
The two Logan brothers are played by Channing Tatum and Adam Driver, and the movie also stars Katie Holmes, Seth MacFarlane, Hillary Swank and Daniel Craig as a convict named Joe Bang with bleach blonde hair and a southern accent gettin’ nekkid in the backseat of a getaway car. It looks to be a fun action/comedy in the tradition of Ocean’s 11/12/13, albeit with “simpler folk” running the show.
The August 18th release date concerns me a little, since August and January are usually the low-attendance dumpster months during which studios release titles they’re not confident about. But I’m still in. It’s Steven Soderbergh, man.

Looks like a lot of fun to me (and it looks like Daniel Craig is having an especially good time not playing James Bond). Thanks for another cinematic heads-up.
Just curious: You pointed out Atomic Blonde a while ago. Have you watched it yet now that its out in theaters? If so, what did you think?
Thanks. Atomic Blonde isn’t out until later this month.
Of course it isn’t. I just saw the trailer when I went to Baby Driver (which, as you write elsewhere, was AMAZING), and the new Spiderman (which was also good fun), and assumed it was already out. I am definitely looking forward to catching it when it actually does come out, and am curious about your own take on it when you also see it.
