In this episode of Fresh Air, Terry talks with one of my favorite writers. John le Carré is the author of The Spy Who Came In From The Cold, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and several others that feature the character of George Smiley, immortalized in filmed versions of le Carré’s books by Rupert Davies, Sir Alec Guinness and Gary Oldman. Smiley appears in le Carré’s new novel, A Legacy of Spies, out now from Penguin Books.

  1. We were rapt listening to this yesterday!

Le Carre’s had quite a life. Must get to his autobiography, stat–then I’ll grab the fiction based on his father’s “character!”
