Steven Soderbergh, one of my favorite filmmakers of all time, has gone public with his plans to retire from the movie business. Sex, Lies & Videotape, Out Of Sight, the Ocean’s trilogy, Traffic, The Limey, Solaris… so many and I love almost all of them.
As someone who is at a professional crossroads himself, I found his words and ideas behind the decision extremely interesting and intelligent. I’ll miss the excitement of going to see a new Soderbergh film, but I have the greatest respect for his decision to close the book and start a new chapter in his life. As always, Kurt Andersen from Studio 360 brings the interview forth perfectly.
“I can’t spend two years making no money on something I know no one is going to see.”
