I knew my cousin Kathryn Hahn had a movie coming out called “Afternoon Delight”. What she didn’t tell me in her infinite humility is that she’s the lead in the movie, which was written and directed by Jill Soloway. When I saw the trailer the other day, I just about did a backflip. Not only does Kathryn look fantastic in the movie, but the movie itself looks great.
In the film, Kathryn plays Rachel, a stay-at-home mom who becomes obsessed with saving a stripper named McKenna, played by the delightful Juno Temple. The film also stars Josh Radnor as Rachel’s husband and the inimitable Jane Lynch as her therapist.
For those of you familiar with Kathryn’s work in shows like “Parks and Recreation,” “Girls,” “Hung” and “Free Agents,” and films like “Step Brothers,” “Revolutionary Road,” “The Goods,” “Our Idiot Brother,” “Wanderlust” and the soon-to-be-released “We’re the Millers” with Jennifer Aniston, you know that she is a masterful performer and virtuosic scene stealer. For years, I’ve been trying to figure out when she’d get the opportunity to carry a movie and I’m thrilled that the opportunity is here with a leading role where she gets to explore both her astounding comedic and dramatic ranges.
“Afternoon Delight” premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival in January and will be in select theaters August 30th.
