The first track that caught my attention was “Yesterday’s Lips.” A young group with the sensitivity and insight to sample horns from The Carol Burnett Show theme will certainly get my attention. From there, I gave the whole record a listen. And what a rich, multi-layered and worthwhile listen it is.
A young group of rapper/singers, producers and musicians from New York City, Phony Ppl is Elbee Thrie (vocals), Sheriff PJ (vocals), Elijah Rawk (lead guitar), Matt “MaffYuu” Byas (drums), Aja Grant (keyboards), Bari Bass (bass guitar), Ian Bakerman (guitar) and Temi Okotieuro (saxophone). My hopes are high.
You can support a New York local talent and download the album (name your price) at the group’s profile at Bandcamp. You can also visit their website: http://www.phonyppl.com.
