Over the years, more than a few guys have asked me how I load my pocket squares (hankies) into the breast pocket of a jacket or blazer.* In this brief video, I show how I do it with cotton, linen and silk hankies.

Like learning to tie a bow tie, it takes practice and gets easier every time you do it. There is more than one way to do load a hanky; this is just how I do it. Eventually, you’ll figure out a method and a style that works for you.

* I neither practice nor advocate putting a hanky in the breast pocket of a topcoat or overcoat. I find it a little contrived.

  1. Thanks George, you have solved one of my style dilemmas…the mystery of the disappearing pocket square. And as a bonus provided a second use for my shoe horn.

Thank you! That shoe horn tip was very valuable 🙂

My pleasure. My stepdad uses a butter knife, which also works well. Anything smooth that won’t snag the hanky or the pocket lining.

  3. OMG I wish I found your site earlier…. Tks for the tips
