The third installment of cuts is from a total cross-section of artists and genres, with music from Yaz, Marilyn Manson, Miles Davis, The Who, Prince, Depeche Mode, The Fifth Dimension, film score composer John Barry, The Manhattan Transfer’s Janis Siegel and Philadelphia funk/soul powerhouse MFSB.
It’s hard to pick a favorite from this volume. I do like the juxtaposition of Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence” and Marilyn Manson’s fantastic cover of “Personal Jesus,” both originally from DM’s 1990 record Violator. “Fun City” by John Barry is from John Schlesinger’s 1969 film Midnight Cowboy. It’s silky smooth, with extra butter on the side. “17 Days” by Prince was the B-side to the Purple Rain hit “When Doves Cry,” and was not included in the original album release in 1984.
Enjoy Volume 3!
