This playlist seems like an obvious follow-up to the New York Times piece on yours truly. Truth be told, I’ve been sitting on this playlist for a while, privately enjoying it as I add or remove songs that seem to fit or not fit. This certainly feels like the perfect week to be sharing it with you.

There are many great songs about this great town, and this is just a little ten song collection of some of my favorites from a mix of eras and genres. The only artist repeat here is Ella Fitzgerald, but come on… it’s Ella. I could listen to her all day. I hope you enjoy.

And I want to send a big thank you to so many of you who’ve shared such nice sentiments about the article in the Times. I owe the biggest thanks to Hilary Howard, the Times editor who wrote the feature. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude that she asked. I’m extremely happy and very proud of it, and I’m also proud of this city. We hunkered down, we stuck it out and look at us now. I will never forget the terror of last spring, and my heart is in agony over the fellow New Yorkers we lost and the remaining New Yorkers who are missing them so much. It really hurts, and we must never forget.

I am so grateful to be here and be counted among other lovers of this town, doing my best to give back to the city that I love and the city that made me and much of what I have possible. We’re not just going to be okay. We’re going to be amazing.

Have a great week, everyone. Do good work and get vaccinated!

Hi George! The very first time that I happened upon you on twitter, you mentioned a Vivaldi piece. I listened and loved it, but now I can’t remember what it was. Please make my day and refresh my memory. Thanks in advance!
