In a city like New York – or any city for that matter – weather starts to get gross in the fall. Yesterday in NYC, the weather was straight-up ass, with rain pounding for almost twelve hours straight.
The proper weather-appropriate footwear is essential, not only as a matter of style but as a matter of health and well-being. In a frigid rain, it’s vital to keep the feet dry to avoid the dreaded cold. In doing so, it also makes sense to do it with wearable flair with the classic rubber rain boot, a.k.a. the “wellington” boot.
Hunter and Burberry make the handsomest rain boots I’ve ever seen. All others are essentially derivative imitations. The basic Hunter Rain Boot is my personal favorite, going for around $125. But if one wants to get fancy with a little bit of gloss, you can tell the world “Hey, I’m wearing Burberry” with Burberry’s Beat Check Rain Boot for around $225.
Keep in mind that these boots are built to keep the feet dry, not necessarily warm. Be sure to get a size that is comfortable with a pair of thick winter socks.

trousers in or out? 😉
I wear them inside the boots.
You’ve gone to far. Boots are not a necessity in NYC or any city; most (all) city folk don’t have Pigs to feed or a run to a barn to milk the cows. A good pair of shoes (or sneakers, dry quicker) w/an umbrella should do us just fine. A retraction is in order.
