The British men’s luxury clothier Alfred Dunhill has created a set of handsomely and simply produced videos called Voice. Voice is a Spring/Summer 2013 campaign described by Dunhill as an up-close and personal, “honest and elegant portfolio of British men of great achievement.” I’ve watched a few of these, all interesting. This one, with music legend Brian Eno, struck a particular chord with me because of his assertion of how boring perfection is. As Eno describes it, perfection is the antithesis of character…
“Distortion is character. In fact, everything we call character is the deviation from perfection. So… perfection to me is characterlessness.”
Truer words were never said.
To catch the whole series, particularly a very interesting installment with photographer Dan McCullin, visit Day 8 at Alfred Dunhill or watch on YouTube.
