The Spring 2014 shows are over, the dust has settled and the cocaine-fueled frenzy has worn off. Another New York Fashion Week has come to a close. As with every fashion week, there is a spectrum. On one end, we have bold artistic expressions designed to be appreciated, written about and worn by rich fashion victims and fierce club kids, I guess. On the other end, we have a more sober take on what people who live on Earth might actually wear in broad daylight. All told, this mix is what makes Fashion Week Fashion Week and New York New York.

It’s a fun spectacle that, once digested, mostly leaves me with ideas. When they hit the stores, the actual garments from the actual collections are typically way beyond my reach. My takeaway is inspiration from and appreciation of a handful of truly talented designers with a gifted eye for masculine glamour and truly handsome clothes.

Here are selections from my favorites…

Michael Bastian

Todd Snyder

Billy Reid

Mark McNairy

J.Crew

Back in August, Tom Ford and Ralph Lauren also showed stunning Spring 2014 collections.
