Strolling past UNIQLO‘s flagship store on Fifth Avenue the other night, I figured I’d stop in and do a lap. If you haven’t been, go. The store is riddled with fantastic and handsome (and inexpensive) clothes, from basics like socks, t-shirts, chinos, shirts, sweaters and more, to terrific seasonal items like hats, puffer jackets, scarves, etc. If someone put a gun to my head, giving me the ultimatum that I had to wear a wardrobe exclusively from UNIQLO, I could easily make it work.
On my self-initiated tour of the place, I happened upon a rack of smart-looking jackets. They came in black, gray or blue, in regular or slim fit. My wardrobe was minus a blue blazer, and I was in need. So I tried on a medium, which, by UNIQLO’s ready-to-wear standards, accommodates a chest between 38 and 41. I have the good fortune of fitting pretty well in a 40R slim-fit off-the-rack, and the jacket looked good when I put it on.
The hand is a nice, soft, light blended wool. It has an outside breast pocket, two side pockets and three interior pockets, with a double vent in the back. It’s a simple, two-button, notch-lapel classic.
The best part? It was on sale for $80.

Hi, Ray. Slightly different blue, but essentially the same jacket.
