I’m a sucker for a flea market. Here in Hell’s Kitchen in NYC, we have the Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market every Saturday and Sunday on West 39th Street between Ninth and Tenth Avenues, weather permitting. Over the years, I’ve found great stuff there.
Sometimes I don’t plan on buying anything and end up finding something I can’t live without, like my Hardoy “Butterfly” Chair, my vintage brushed aluminum desk lamp or my favorite fedora (pictured). Even if I don’t actually buy something, I always manage to find things that inspire me or just make me smile. Shopping at a flea market is a sure way to find something truly special and unique that you couldn’t find at a store or in a catalog, especially the vintage wares. Either way, I make it a point to get over there every weekend.
When I go, I like to snap iPhone pix of stuff that catches my eye and post them in my “Flea Market NYC” gallery on Flickr. Here they are…
