I just got back from riding my bike to my nearest pet store to restock on Smokey and Lenore’s food (2.3 miles, 13 minute ride each way), and I thought I would update you guys on the #CarFreeInCLE situation.

As any regular reader of this blog knows, I live in Downtown Cleveland without a car, which is unusual in this car-centric town. I’ve been keeping track of what I’ve spent on transportation and comparing it to what I would have spent on a car.

To review… These would be my estimated monthly car expenses:

Car payments: $250
Gas: $120
Parking in my building: $180
Insurance: $60
TOTAL: $610
This does not include repairs, maintenance, parking tickets or other incidentals.

Here is what I actually spent in the month of March:

Uber: $123.47
Bus: $2.50
TOTAL: $125.97

Between Uber, public transportation, walking and riding my bike, I’m doing just fine without a car.
