The original Amy's Bread on Ninth Avenue between 46th + 47th Streets

Breads, muffins, scones, cookies, cupcakes, cakes, coffee, soups, sandwiches…

Amy Scherber opened the original Amy’s Bread in Hell’s Kitchen in 1992. In addition to my favorite baked treats, like the Kitchen Sink cookie, a country biscuit, a baguette, a turkey & avocado sandwich, or a piece of red velvet cake, Amy’s also serves delicious coffee. When I stopped in last week for a quick cup to go, I noticed a new item on the shelf: Amy’s granola. Can’t wait to try it.

Amy’s also does special orders. Get your holiday bread order in early, as they get very busy this time of year.

Amy has done so well that she’s been able to expand to locations in Chelsea Market and the West Village (Bleecker + Leroy). Unlike other popular NYC chains I won’t mention, Amy’s seems to be one of the only New York bake shops that has expanded to other locations without cutting corners, getting corporate or compromising her local city-born flavor in any way. It matters.

This New Yorker is thrilled she’s here.
