The Garrison Belt has its roots in the military as the Sam Browne belt, which was a heavy-duty leather belt for holsters and duty gear. The Sam Browne belt was characterized by the additional leather strap attached to the belt that slung over an officer’s right shoulder designed to secure the waist belt and its gear in place. (The shoulder strap also helped the wearer manage the weight of the gear attached to the belt.)
The casual-only Garrison is a simple and timeless belt, ideal for jeans, chinos or other casual trousers. Just be sure to leave the shoulder strap out of it, unless, of course, you work the door on Military Mondays at the local leather bar.
