Say what you will or feel what you feel about Ricky Gervais. I care not, unless, of course, you love his brand of raw and honest humor as I do. I think he did a brilliant job performing his emcee duties in his unique “if they’re thinking it, say it” way at this year’s Golden Globes. For telling the brutal truth, hitting it all where it lives and ending the broadcast with “That’s it. We’re out of time. From myself and Mel Gibson: Shalom,” he won and earned the #ZeroFucksGiven award hands-down.

As for the best dressed man in the room at the Golden Globes, my award goes to Tom Ford in a velvet dinner jacket by Tom Ford. There were others who looked pretty good – some even wearing very nice Tom Ford dinner jackets – but no one except Mr. Ford nailed the seemingly daunting feat of consistent proportions with lapel width, shirt collar width, bow tie width, shirt cuff exposure and trouser length. And the overall prom king and queen for the evening were Mr. Ford and Lady Gaga, a new Golden Globe winner who looked every inch like a Hollywood movie goddess.

An extra special nod goes to my friend and exquisitely talented actor Denis O’Hare who paid glorious homage to his character Liz Taylor in American Horror Story: Hotel. Along with a handsome peak lapel houndstooth jacket by Billy Reid, Denis burned the red carpet with a pair of amazing gold and black paisley-printed platform heels. To accent the shoes, he went with gold polish on the toes. The finishing touch? Red fingernails. Bravo, Denis! (Or… Brava!)

David Bowie. I’ll say it again… David Bowie. My heart sank as I received an alert on my phone from The New York Times. I’ve been playing his music all day, particularly Blackstar, which was just released not three days ago on his 69th birthday.

I had one brief association with Mr. Bowie with a film project that was released with his album REALITY in 2003. The director of the piece, my brilliant friend Steven Lippman, hired me for a piece of post-production work which entailed digitally removing a string that suspended a mirrorball in a few sequences in the section for the song “Bring Me The Disco King.” It was repetitive work that involved thousands of frames, but it looked great in the end. What a privilege to have been a part of it and to have my name in the credits of a David Bowie project.
