Arnold Palmer, one of golf’s greatest and most stylish legends, died this past weekend at the age of 87. The New York Times’ online obituary on Palmer featured a video interview from 2011 in which Palmer said some of the greatest words I’ve ever heard about the importance of style.
I’ve always felt you have to develop your own style. You can’t take it away, and you can’t give it. It’s something that’s there, and that’s what I’ve worked on through all my life. To whatever success I’ve had, I contribute it to the fact that I developed my own style. It’s how you look, how you think… everything you do is in some way connected to that style… the way you shine your shoes!”
