In the aftermath of an astonishing and crushing week, I found some solace, wisdom and healing in two particular programs in digital media this week.
The first was the post-election episode of Chelsea Handler‘s “Chelsea” on Netflix. The show was taped on Wednesday, November 9th, and featured former Senator Barbara Boxer from California, who shined a light into the darkness with smart, optimistic and empowering words. It was actually very healing. Below is an excerpt of most of the show.
The other slice of comfort and understanding came from one of my favorite podcasts, The New Yorker Radio Hour. Editor and host David Remnick talks with staff writers Amy Davidson and George Packer, who help decode what happened and what it might all mean. On the second half of the show, Remnick shares his interview with Leonard Cohen, who died this week at the age of 82. The conversation was recorded just a few months ago as Cohen was succumbing to cancer and staring death in the face.
