The Djay app was one of the highest acclaimed apps of 2011. It turns your iPad into a full-on DJ system, accessing all the music and playlists from your Music library. The touchscreen interface and “ultra low–latency” come together to promise a professional mixing experience. Perform live, record mixes on–the–go, or use Automix mode to let Djay automatically mix your favorite playlist from your music library. It’s $20, and I could think of far worse ways to waste time.
I figured it was only a matter of time before LEGO decided to create a game about me. Alas, that time has come. It is called “Life of George,” combining the physical LEGO pieces we all know and love with an iPhone app. First, you get the Life of George product, then you download the complementary (and complimentary) iPhone app. Now you’re ready! The object is just to play and have fun, really… just like me. Continue reading →

I’ve never had a real problem with the iPhone’s native Calendar app. It’s perfectly functional and does everything I want it to do, syncing events and appointments seamlessly with my desktop Mac and my MacBook Pro with great ease. If I ever had a problem with the Calendar app, it was with its looks. The Calendar app, like most apps and Web sites, is visually over-produced, at least for me. Enter the Agenda app for iPhone.
I’m a bit of an NPR junkie. By day, I usually listen to WNYC, NPR’s New York affiliate, which features mostly local programming like The Brian Lehrer Show (10am – 12pm), The Leonard Lopate Show (12pm – 2pm) and Soundcheck (3pm – 4pm). The rest of the programming day is left mostly to NPR programming like Fresh Air with Terry Gross and On The Media.
For years, I’ve been a huge fan of SomaFM, listener-supported, commercial-free internet radio out of San Francisco. iTunes radio features many of their streams. You can also listen by clicking the listen links on their site (http://somafm.com). On my setup at home, I have iTunes connected wirelessly to my stereo via AirTunes/Airport Express, enabling me to listen to iTunes on multiple speakers in the apartment. Whenever I’m not listening to WNYC or my own collection, it’s usually SomaFM.
