A Smart (and Colorful) Espresso Maker from DeLonghi

delonghi-kmix-blue-tn

It’s been years since I’ve enjoyed my coffee with any milk or its soy cousin. I drink my coffee black. When I’m out to dinner, I usually enjoy dessert with something I don’t get at home: espresso. I love espresso. The time may be coming for a trusty (and compact) expresso machine at home. DeLonghi has come up with the smart and colorful kMix Collection of coffee makers, espresso makers, tea kettles and toasters. The price tag for the espresso … Continue reading

The Man in the Hathaway Shirt

hathaway-man-tn

Though I wasn’t born yet when advertising legend David Ogilvy created “The Man in the Hathaway Shirt” in 1951, I have a vivid memory of his iconic image. When I was a kid, I would go with my dad to his favorite clothiers on Cleveland’s west side – either Captain’s Quarters or Ford’s Clothier in Rocky River, Ohio – and I would see the Hathaway ads in the shops. At the time, I thought the Hathaway shirt man and his … Continue reading

Magnus Stand for iPad 2

magnus-ipad-stand-tn

There are lots of stands out there for the iPad 2. Most of them are ugly. Apple introduced the iPad 2 with a beautifully designed and aptly named Smart Cover, available through Apple. The only drawback of the Smart Cover is that it only supports the tablet in horizontal or “landscape” orientation. The folks at Ten One Design have introduced a stand for the iPad 2 that supports it in either the landscape or portrait orientation. It’s called the Magnus … Continue reading

twa-poster-new-york-tn

The iconic work of designer and illustrator David Klein defined the Jet Set style. Though he created countless designs for numerous industries during his decades in the advertising industry, he is perhaps best known for his ad work in the 1950s and 1960s for Howard Hughes’ Trans World Airlines (TWA). When people refer to a piece of visual media and say it “pops,” this is the kind of thing they’re talking about. Klein’s mix of fun, glamour, excitement and explosive … Continue reading

Sofa, So Good…

sofa-post-tn

One of the essentials for the grown-up man’s home is a good sofa. It’s a place to read, recline, collapse, nap, watch television and get better acquainted with a date. When shopping for a real sofa, i.e. one that will last, one should expect to pay anywhere from the high hundreds ($800+) on the low end to well into the thousands. Unlike a lot of options for stylish items for other items in our life, sofas are like shoes: you … Continue reading

iPhone 4 Legacy 128k Case

iphone-legacy-tn

I’ve said it many times… I’m not a fan of cases that hide the appearance of the world’s most elegant smartphone. Les Forges MDK, however, has created something truly special for the iPhone 4. It actually capitalizes on the beautiful look and feel inherent in the iPhone’s design while putting a classic Apple 128K Macintosh skin on it. No word on whether or not it’s available for purchase, but it sure is a fun idea.
